WP1: Advancing Instruct through Instruct-ULTRA

The purpose of Work Package 1 was twofold: firstly, to coordinate the Instruct ULTRA project management and secondly, to support the expansion of Instruct-ERIC.

This involved three core tasks:

• Creating a communication plan and strategy for the consortium
• Organising a programme of events/resources for delivering best practice in the provision of Instruct-ERIC services and technology
• Developing relationships with key European stakeholders in the Life Sciences, including funding agencies and national networks

As such, WP1 underpinned activities of the other work packages; in particular WP2, WP3 and WP5.

Highlight

In 2017, Instruct ULTRA funded the first Instruct Best Practices in CryoEM Workshop, hosted by the Research Complex at Harwell. The event was established as a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience between EM facility scientists, managers and computational experts in academia and industry. Following its success in 2017, the event continued annually, hosted by NeCEN, Leiden, Netherlands in 2018, IGBMC, Strasbourg, France in 2019, and the Astbury Biostructure Laboratory, Leeds, United Kingdom in 2020. At the end of the workshop in 2020, it was announced that EMBL would be hosting the 5th Best Practices in Cryo-EM Workshop in 2021, continuing the event beyond the ULTRA Project.
