We are looking for candidates with a strong background in cryo-EM to join our lab as a senior/staff scientist in the Spanish National Cancer Research Institute (CNIO) in lively Madrid, Spain. The group will open in Autumn 2024.
We aim to understand, through structural biology (cryo-EM and cryo-ET, with accessory techniques), the molecular mechanisms governing the regulation of metabolism and cell growth in eukaryotes. Primary work will include the determination of macromolecular complexes involved in these processes at a near-native state in human and yeast cells. Structural biology will be complemented by cell biology and biochemistry techniques. Likewise, the staff scientist will contribute to the training of PhD students and postdocs in the group.
Requirements:
- PhD in biology or related fields, with at least 4 years of postdoc experience in an internationally recognized institution.
- Extensive experience with purification and cryo-EM sample preparation of challenging macromolecular complexes.
- Experience in microscope usage (side entry and autoloader), data collection, data processing and model building.
- Previous experience working with membrane proteins or lipids, and human cell culture is a plus.
- Excellent English (spoken and written).
- Good management skills.
