Post-doc position in NMR at Ecole Normale Supérieure – PSL

École Normale Supérieure, Paris, France
Application deadline: 03 Feb 2021

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) has the power to investigate matter at atomic resolution. The separation of NMR signals by chemical shifts is proportional to the magnetic field so that high resolution in complex systems requires high magnetic fields. NMR relaxation probes dynamics at the resonance frequencies of nuclear spins so motions slower than a few nanoseconds require low fields, fundamentally incompatible with high resolution and high sensitivity. How to reconcile multiscale dynamics and atomic resolution investigation of complex systems by NMR?

They have built a consortium of five teams throughout Europe to achieve the investigation of multiscale dynamics at atomic resolution by NMR. Central to this project is the construction of a new concept of NMR instrument by Bruker Biospin, the world leader in NMR instrumentation.

The post-doc research associate will work on methods developments as well as applications to the investigations of multiscale dynamics in proteins, drug delivery systems and biological fluids.

The project will be carried out under the supervision of Fabien Ferrage. The team is part of the NMR group at the Department of Chemistry of the Ecole Normale Superieure PSL, Paris. The group offers a unique environment where the research activity on magnetic resonance encompasses pulse sequence and hardware developments for liquid-state and solid-state NMR, MRI and hyperpolarization, as well as applications to a range of biomolecular systems. The Ecole Normale Superieure is a founding member of PSL University and ideally located at the scientific and historic heart of Paris.
