Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

We wish to recruit an experienced and motivated biochemist to run the eukaryotic protein expression facilities at the EMBL Grenoble Site. The main focus will be on maintaining and developing the insect cell expression laboratory but the post will include overseeing mammalian and yeast cell expression facilities as well. The facilities have high internal usage by EMBL scientists for production of proteins and complexes for structural studies but are also open to other local researchers in the context of the Grenoble Partnership for Structural Biology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing day to day operation, maintaining supplies, servicing equipment, developing protocols and training of new users. In addition he/she will be involved in research projects of in house scientists.
Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a Technical, Master or PhD degree in biochemistry or a related field. Skills in molecular biology, protein expression and purification are required and, in particular, demonstrable experience in insect cell expression using baculovirus. He/She will work in a collaborative international research environment, provide a high quality service to users, troubleshoot protein expression problems and have good communication skills. He/She will keep abreast of evolving protein expression methods and facilitate their implementation at the Site.
